Jamal Malachi is the name of New Orleans based Hip-Hop & experimental music project, fronted by Erica Ether. She is a rapper from New Orleans’ lower 9th Ward and a co-founder of Cut+Sew Records & Ent. Coming from a musical family, Erica has been rapping, writing & playing music since the age of 9. She began recording & producing while still in school, releasing her first works with friends in the early-mid 2010s, eventually partnering with producer/rapper JCKIEJEWLZ to form Cut+Sew Records. While taking obvious influence from her New Orleans predecessors like Curren$y & Mia X, she also pulls inspiration from rappers like Lupe Fiasco, Kendrick Lamar, clipping. & Missy Elliot. Experimenting with multiple sonic styles, she draws influence from numerous artists from other genres as well, including the likes of Portishead, Incubus, FKA Twigs & Paramore.

In 2025, she released her first official project via her label, the 3-track EP, ‘…and it showed me 3 faces.’ After spending the year building an audience, collaborating with other artists, creating a live show & curating a new sound, she’s preparing to release her follow up EP, the hardcore focused, ‘2Face’.
